WSQ Relief Staff Programme

Overview

Become a qualified relief staff in early childhood education

If you have answered ‘Yes’ to any of those questions, then why not consider becoming a relief teacher with child care centres and pre-schools in Singapore. When permanent full-time teachers are away on leave or attending professional courses, these centres require relief teachers to assist with non-structured activities and routine care in the classroom.

Join the WSQ Relief Staff Programme so you can learn how to look after the needs of children aged 18 months to 6 years in childcare centres or pre-schools. A training programme developed by the SEED Institute and supported by the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) and SkillsFuture (SSG) [formerly known as the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA)], the programme will help you to understand how children learn and develop, how to relate with children, and how to meet their needs.

Through 80 hours of in-class training and 30 hours of supervised field practicum, you will gain the necessary experience to be a qualified relief staff. Following the programme, you will be able to provide support to pre-schools in carrying out non-structured play and other activities such as storytelling, singing songs and rhymes, conducting simple art activities and assisting in outdoor activities. In addition, routine care activities such as diaper changing, showering, feeding and preparation for bedtime will be a major part of your role.
